JOHNSON, Vt. - Johnson State College Athletics announced the hiring of Raymond Campanile in February, 2010 as their Head Coach of the men's and women’s soccer programs. In 2010, Campanile led the men to an improved tie for 5th place in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and helped the team earn a coveted National Ethics Award through the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Two players were named to the NAC 2nd team and one player was named to the all-tournament team. Two current players also broke into the hallowed Johnson State soccer record books.
Coach Campanile also led the women's soccer program to an improved 9-7 regular season record, 4-3 in the NAC. The Lady Badgers earned a berth in the Conference semi-finals, hosting a quarter final match. The Lady Badgers earned two National Awards with the Team Academic Award and the National Ethics Award (both through the NSCAA). One player was named to the NAC first team, one player to the 2nd team, and two players were named to the NAC all-tournament team. Many firsts occurred during the 2010 season. The women recorded their first winning season since 2002, the first play-off hosted since 1993, the first conference semi-final appearance since 1993, and the a first team all-conference candidate since 2003. Three players improved their standing in the Johnson State soccer record books and four players broke into the record ranks.
Campanile, who served as the Associate Head Coach for both programs in 2009, helped lead the Johnson State men's team to a NAC semifinal appearance, a first for JSC since joining the NAC in 2002, while also aiding in a NAC quarterfinal appearance by the Lady Badgers who doubled their season win total from 2008. Two players from the men's program were named to the NAC all-tournament team, one player from the women's team was named all-tournament, and one Lady Badger was named to the NAC All-Academic honor roll.
Previously, Campanile spent three seasons as the men's soccer Head Coach at Green Mountain College where he also served as the Sports Information Director, Compliance Coordinator, and Director of Athletics. In three seasons from 2005-2007, Campanile compiled a 21-37-1 record and guided the Eagles to the Northeast Regional playoffs in the Association of Division III Independent (AD3I) Conference in his last season, 2007. Campanile coached one first team all-conference player, four 2nd team all-conference players, and five honorable mention players in the AD3I.
Campanile also served as the Head Coach at Harwood Union High School from 2001-2004 where he guided the Highlanders to post-season play all four years. The Highlanders were a class act capturing the Metro Division Sportsmanship Award in 2002 and 2004 and Campanile also garnered the Metro Division Coach of the Year honors in the same years. While at Harwood, Campanile also served as the Coaching and Technical Director of Mandible Soccer Club, as an Olympic Development Head Coach for the '86, '88 and '90 age groups, and helped found the Vermont Amateur Soccer League (VASL).
Prior to Harwood, Campanile served as the assistant coach and goalkeeper coach for two seasons at Johnson State College, 1999-2000. He also played his final college season at Johnson in 1998, serving as captain, and led the Badgers to the conference finals, being named to the Mayflower Conference first team. Campanile also played at the University of New Hampshire and at the Derryfield School in Manchester, NH where he was a part of four consecutive state championships and was named the New Hampshire High School Player of the Year in 1991.
Holding an NSCAA Premier Coaching Diploma, an NSCAA National Goalkeeping Diploma, and earning his Bachelor of Art (1999) and Master of Art (2009) from Johnson State College, and also serves as a the Head Coach of the U16 boy's and girl's premier teams at the Far Post Soccer Club. He resides in Jeffersonville, VT with his wife and three children.
