Johnson State Athletics named Elaine Harvey its assistant athletics director for external and internal communications in December of 2012. Her role was made possible by a grant from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In addition to helping manage and grow JSC's intercollegiate athletics programs, Harvey's focus is strengthening JSC's ties with athletics alumni, managing sports information at JSC, and promoting the college's 13 varsity athletics programs.
Prior to joining the Johnson State athletics staff, Harvey worked in Washington, D.C. at the public relations firm of Powell Tate|Weber Shandwick, where she was an account executive and digital analyst. Her exposure to top clients such as the United States Air Force, Pepsi, the National Women's Law Center and Nike allowed her to sharpen her brand managment skills. She also worked in media and public relations for the Peace Corps' headquarters.
A former NCAA Division III student-athlete, Harvey was a three-year starter and a two-year captain of the women's soccer team at Mount Holyoke College, where she graduated with a degree in American Studies in 2010. In her senior season, Harvey was selected to play in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association's Senior Bowl.
Harvey has led Johnson athletics through a brand redesign, improved web access and is spearheading the department's fundraising efforts.
Harvey resides in Stowe, Vt. and is currently working towards her M.Ed. in higher education leadership from the University of Vermont.
